Original web design? Surely an oxymoron! Au contraire. Manuel Mouillard has achieved this, several times over. This fun portfolio offers unique samples showcasing an individual style, as well as a novel use of music. This is very high praise (and we mean it) in a world of cookie-cutter design. Mouillard�s illustrations feel like teenage comic book drawings, and what�s lacking in fine art is acheived by true art �- offering a clear message visually. Turn down the volume if you must, but play with the site and samples. They play back.... More

The messages are rich and well balanced, although it�s sometimes difficult to know exactly what Mr. Hecox is trying to sell. Sure, we've seen plenty of portfolios from design companies who expertly converge software like Maya and Flash to create attractive interactive websites or online campaigns; but Converged is topnotch. We're not quite sure what Mashinma does; we can assume that Grupo Audiovisual means that they're a firm which works in multimedia; Illustracion means they do Illustration; Print and Web mean, well, print and web. So apparently Mashinima does everything, and to prove it they have a site with no English but plenty of eerie imagery -- stone cherubs that change colors, futuristic citsycapes, flowers that bloom out of nowhere. It's one of the loveliest sites we've seen. But, um, we're still not too clear on what they're all about.... More

Dry

Dry puts it up front: they're addicted to consumerism, and they make ads, as well as short films, that make people want to buy things. Their campaigns are specifically marketed towards teenagers, so their site features clever graphic designs, flashy images, and sexy women in jeans. Their site is actually hard to navigate – we're still not sure what's what – but at least it looks cool, which is probably all that matters to teenagers.... More

And by "they," we mean Gregg Bernstein, who founded the freelance company in 1999, and since then has found himself creating album covers, website, t-shirts, and other graphic designs for some pretty swell bands. If you listen to Weezer or drink Mountain Dew, you're probably familiar with his work. You just didn't know it till now.... More
