Jonathan Schloss

Jonathan SchlossWhat's great about this site is all you have to do is punch in the web address, load it up and let it play. On the other hand, if you want you can drill down to each project and zoom into every image in the portfolio. The architectural work contains some huge cultural and civic projects (like Radio City Hall, for one), as well as some small, but very great residential renovations. Smart Flash scripting gives users an in-depth view of every image... it really feels like you are sitting at a big table sifting through high-resolution photographs with a big magnifying glass. Ultimately the little details (and there are many) in the design of this portfolio really make it shine. Truly wonderful.... More

Coca-Cola BlaK

Coca-Cola BlaKAn online branding experience for the new coffee-injected Coke that invites the user to three beautiful virtual rooms representing three drinking moments of a Coca-ColaBlaK (after lunch, at work and at home). Once inside, visitors can access a couple mini-games related to the French tagline "L'esprit Vif?" (translation: "The Sharp Mind"). They give the opportunity to the visitor to take a Coca-ColaBlaK break and accept a mental, uplifting challenge. Overall, it's a very pretty promo for this new Coke drink, showcasing design, bold color-choices and the new, hip Coke packaging more than anything else. An effervescent endeavour for a visually-driven promotional vehicle (written in French).... More

Ron Berg Photography

Ron Berg PhotographyVisit Ron Berg's photo-folio and you'll be greeted by a large-screen site, upbeat music, a rapid array of images and a friendly "hello". The site features Ron Berg's lifestyle and advertising photography, plus a few little extras, like an insider’s view of his truly sick studio. The emphasis here is on personality, which emerges through the copy and user-friendly navigation that gets you into exploring the site. For a genre of design that gets overly wrapped up in the mystery of puzzling interfaces, this site is a refreshing alternative that opens up the door on the "dark room".... More

Motorazr Dolce & Gabbana

Motorazr Dolce & GabbanaA pure promotional showcase, this site presents the new Dolce & Gabbana co-branded Motorola Razor V3i phone. Done up in a kind of gilded-orange tone with DG logos, the phone also comes with a few similarly tricked-out gold accessories. Overall, the site is fairly straight-forward - obviously geared to the youth market - and although you can't stop the background music, it has a certain flair that complements the design of the phone. Written in Italian and created for the Italian market.... More

In-Synch Challenge

In-Synch ChallengeOwning a home or a small business can be a risky proposition. To help identity and avoid those risks, Fallon & B-Reel helped insurance company Travelers create "The In-Synch Challenge," an interactive experience - complete with fully 3D rendered environments and composited green screen footage of actual actors - that puts ones safety awareness IQ to the test. Sure, the insurance companies want to put a little fear into you, but the real fear should come from checking out this demo and asking yourself as a web design company... Damn, how the hell could one possibly compete with the depth of this production? Sure, it's a touch dry, but from a development standpoint, it has every possible feature one can cram into a website design - film, motion, 3-D, voice-overs, acting, plus interaction with a bit of game-play. And from a business view, it must be seen as a total... More

Hotel Savoy Beach

Hotel Savoy BeachThis site has some very elegant photographic shots of a beautiful resort area of Hotel Savoy Beach, in Paestum, Italy. What's really nice about this design by Verniere Scarpa is that it accentuates the hotel details and atmosphere by using full-screen shots instead of the pop-ups or smaller photos a typical hotel might use in a typical site design. Utilizing Flash in this way works perfectly for this luxury subject... I mean, who needs words after you see these images? All we need is a ticket to Italy!... More

CUPE

When you represent over a half-million union workers in Canada, you have a lot of information to disseminate and a lot people to inform. So when CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) turned to Happy Cog, the design firm arm of A List Apart, to redesign their hulking site, it became a showcase in how to manage information sprawl. CUPE's new design displays an expertise in information architecture, graphic and type design, and web standards. The results turn the intimidating into the friendly and approachable, and simultaneously provides a public relations trump card for this workers association. While we're not big fans of standardized employee policies that pay you while you strike, we are certainly huge fans of beautiful, standardized design and information architecture that elegnatly solves information design problems.... Encore

Encore Featuring full page photos, articles, and contests, Encore Magazine covers design, illustration, photography and film in more than 150 pages of interesting articles and inspirational work. Coming from a graffiti background, we really, really liked the hand-made type competition and the 20 outstanding winners in this issue. We also really, really liked the special on graffiti artist DAIM, covering his amazing work and thoughts on his 3D style. Encore No.21 is the latest published version at the time of this posting, however getting to Encore is a little tricky, as you have to click through a pre-entry area under the umbrella of 'MagWerk' and pass a sign-in area. The direct URL is pretty ugly, (http://www.magwerk.com/mag.php?magazine=encore&language=en) but once you get in there, well... ugliness is not a factor. Bravo!... More

El Semillero

El SemilleroFrom a simple seed can sprout the most implausible creations, and the only thing that you need to do is to go up, up and up… So starts a journey through one of the most original websites we've ever visited. Discover the brain-bugs, the hand-flowers and the hearts with human caterpillars, all inside the incredible universe of “El Semillero?", a school for creatives, advertisers and designers located in Mexico. The site is truly an ingenious work of love, with 5 stages of such beautifully animated and rich interactive sections, it makes it difficult to put into words. From what we could gather with our tepid Spanish skills, El Semillero is essentially an elite design school that is responsible for filling up many of the open positions in Spanish speaking advertising agencies across the world. It's really worth checking out every section completely, as each area has its own fantastic elements.... More
